Overthinker Drops Debut EP

Overthinker, a brand new band out of Orlando, FL that has recently burst onto the scene dropped their debut self titled EP Friday, March 22nd. Consisting of vocalist/Guitarists Tony Murphy and Eric Snow, Vocalist/Bassist Glen Ramirez and Drummer Joey Crochet, they sport an invigorating blend of old-school and new-school pop-punk sensibilities with a driving rock edge. Overthinker have crafted a fun, upbeat and memorable early summer soundtrack to kickstart 2019.

This 19 minute venture pays homage to the sounds of their peers and counterparts in the scene, while forming a niche signature sound all their own. Overlapping harmonies and vocal melodies absolutely flood all five tracks of the EP, creating a full soundscape that is playful in mood, but executed with urgency and passion. Driving, robust chords and percussion dominate the songs, with just enough ebb and flow of pacing to always keep the listener on their toes about where the song might go next.

I personally got a lot of Rarity vibes from this release, a band from Anyone who is closely in tune with what I listen to know that “I Couldn’t be Weaker”, Rarity’s debut full length album is one of my favorite pop punk/post-hardcore fusion records of the last few years. The band does a great job of keeping the energy of pop punk while also delivering song structure sensibilities more akin to bands of more hardcore influenced writing styles. Overthinker does something similar here. I can’t put my finger on exactly what that certain something is just yet, but it feels very fresh, even upon first listen.
